A popular description has proved less useful than its authors hoped.

Friday Parcel Rush Slows When Clerk Discovers Twelve Boxes Labelled MISC

The Central Postal Office experienced a short delay this afternoon after twelve parcels from three different senders arrived marked MISC. The word appeared where a contents description was required.

Clerks explained that miscellaneous is a category, not an explanation. The senders then supplied descriptions including “small household things,” “parts” and “several useful items.” These were judged only marginally better. Eventually the boxes were properly recorded as books, brass fittings and kitchen textiles.

All twelve parcels entered the system before closing. Postal staff have asked customers to describe contents with nouns whenever possible. Gobbs reportedly supports this policy strongly.
