Orwin Reed’s metal measuring tape slipped from an apprentice’s hand this afternoon and retracted across a workshop bench. The hook struck a teaspoon beside a tea cup and produced a clear high note.
The sound was interesting enough that the apprentice repeated the experiment from a shorter distance. Orwin arrived during attempt three and asked why a measuring tool was being tuned. The apprentice explained that the second distance produced a different rhythm but admitted the spoon remained the same pitch.
The tape has been inspected and found undamaged. The spoon has been returned to tea service. Orwin has introduced a temporary rule stating that measurement equipment should measure things. Nobody believes the rule was previously necessary.
