The East Market fountain was shut for forty minutes today while maintenance staff removed leaves from the intake grille. The work was routine and water service resumed normally.
During the closure, three children drew a replacement fountain design on scrap paper. Their proposal includes four upper basins, six fish, a small bridge and what appears to be a rotating pastry display. An engineer accepted the drawing politely.
The existing fountain will not be replaced. The children have been invited to submit the design to the school art board instead. The pastry mechanism remains unexplained.
