Postal workers at the Central Office are trying to identify the owner of a small parcel that has remained unclaimed for four days. The package is wrapped in brown paper, tied with red string and addressed simply to: “THE PERSON WHO KNOWS WHAT THIS IS.”
No sender is listed. The parcel has produced a quiet click twice since Tuesday. Officials say this is not, by itself, illegal. The Postal Service has asked residents not to visit merely to stare at it. Twenty-three residents have now visited merely to stare at it.
One man claimed the parcel immediately, then withdrew his claim when asked what was inside. Another said, “If I knew what it was, I would know whether I wanted it.” Postal staff described this as the strongest argument received so far. The parcel remains behind the counter. It clicked again during preparation of this report.
