An enormous old pressure gauge has entered the city museum, where visitors have immediately become interested in the one part labelled DO NOT TOUCH.

Ancient Gauge Donated to Museum; Adjustment Screw Already Attracts Attention

A large brass pressure gauge removed from an old municipal line has been donated to the city museum. The instrument is nearly twice the size of modern street gauges. It is no longer accurate enough for active service but remains mechanically complete.

Museum staff plan to clean it while preserving decades of wear. The display will explain how pressure moves the internal mechanism. Visitors will not be permitted to turn the adjustment screw. This restriction was written into the display notes before the gauge arrived.

Within twelve minutes of delivery, three museum employees had independently asked what the screw does. The curator refused to tell them. Interest has increased significantly. A temporary cover has now been fitted over the screw. The cover has a smaller screw. Nobody is happy about this.
