Chimney Sweep Finds Brass Thing Nobody Can Identify; Public Wants to Turn Its Wheel

A mysterious brass object has entered lost property and immediately attracted exactly the kind of attention lost property does not need.

Chimney Sweep Finds Brass Thing Nobody Can Identify; Public Wants to Turn Its Wheel

A chimney sweep working above Workshop Alley found an unusual brass object wedged behind a roof vent. It is about the size of a pocket watch. It has no face. No hands. No winding stem. It does have three slots and a small recessed wheel.

No nearby workshop claims it. City officials believe it may be part of an old mechanism. The object has been placed in lost property. Residents were asked not to visit merely to turn the recessed wheel.

Someone had already turned it before the request was posted. Nothing happened. This has made the public more interested, not less. The City Office has now put the object in a drawer. A label on the drawer reads: “UNKNOWN. PLEASE STOP HELPING.”
