After six months of complaints about a leaning lamp post, Bell Street residents have discovered they had become emotionally attached to it.

Crooked Lamp Post Finally Straightened; Residents Complain Street Looks Wrong

A leaning lamp post near Bell Street has finally been straightened after six months. The post was safe but visibly tilted toward the road. Repeated repair requests were delayed while two offices debated who owned which part of it.

The base belonged to Street Works. The bracket belonged to City Engineering. The lean apparently belonged to everybody. Workers reset the base and replaced two bolts. The lamp is now perfectly upright. Several residents thanked them. Three others complained that the street “looks wrong.”

A shopkeeper has asked whether the old angle can be painted onto the pavement “for historical accuracy.” Another wants the post tilted back slightly, but officially. The City Office has declined. For now, Bell Street will have to endure a straight lamp post.
