A Postal Service bird completed its morning route carrying one additional item: A grey felt hat. The hat was caught neatly around the strap of its message harness. It was not listed for delivery. The bird appeared perfectly comfortable with the arrangement.
Postal staff are trying to determine where the hat came from. Its route passes through several streets between East Tower and Copper Market. The hat is now in lost property. Anyone claiming it must describe the inner band and a small mark on the brim.
Handlers have asked the bird for assistance. The bird looked at the hat. Then at the handlers. Then away. The Postal Service says this does not count as testimony. The hat fits the bird surprisingly well, which has complicated recovery efforts.
