Workshop Alley Closed by Runaway Barrel That Changes Direction Twice

A large empty barrel briefly became the fastest thing in Workshop Alley and possibly the most determined.

Workshop Alley Closed by Runaway Barrel That Changes Direction Twice

Workshop Alley was closed for half an hour after a large empty barrel escaped from a loading ramp. The barrel rolled downhill, struck a curb, changed direction and continued between two workshop entrances. Three people attempted to stop it.

Two reconsidered. The third succeeded using a crate. The barrel’s owner blamed a loose loading wedge. The wedge has been replaced. No injuries were reported. One witness described the barrel as “surprisingly agile.” Another said it had “clear intentions.”

City officials have not introduced new regulations. They have simply recommended wedges that remain where they are put. The barrel is now tied in place. It has not moved since. Several residents have still chosen to walk around it rather than past it.
