Copper Market inspectors confiscated three unlicensed pressure kettles this week. All three had reinforced lids, oversized gauges and additional pipes not normally required for making tea. One included a large lever labelled: “MORE.” Nobody has been able to explain what there should be more of.
Steam? Tea? Regret? The stallholder described the devices as “high-performance domestic equipment.” Inspectors described them as “absolutely not.” Ordinary kettles remain legal. The public has been advised not to buy heating equipment from anyone who cannot explain every valve.
The confiscated kettles will be examined by engineers. The stallholder has been instructed not to replace them with “improved versions.” He has asked whether “completely different but suspiciously similar versions” would be acceptable. The Market Office has not replied.
