City Removes Sandwich from Emergency Valve Cabinet and Adds Surprisingly Specific Rule

A sandwich discovered in an emergency cabinet has generated a new sentence in the municipal handbook.

City Removes Sandwich from Emergency Valve Cabinet and Adds Surprisingly Specific Rule

City Engineering has removed a wrapped sandwich from an emergency valve cabinet in the Lower Quarter. The cabinet is intended to contain one shut-off tool and written instructions. It is not intended to contain lunch. The sandwich was fresh.

Nobody has claimed it. An engineer described the incident as “not dangerous, just disappointing.” The cabinet has been cleaned and resealed. A new line will be added to workshop guidance: “Emergency equipment cabinets must not be used for food storage.”

Officials admit this rule did not previously exist because nobody expected to need it. A resident asked whether biscuits are included. Yes. Another asked about tea. Also yes. The sandwich has been moved to lost property. This has raised a separate question nobody wishes to discuss.
