A workshop boiler produced a clear musical note during a routine pressure release yesterday. Orwin identified the cause as steam passing across a narrow edge inside the vent. Gobbs identified the cause as “talent.” He has proposed connecting three additional vents at different lengths to create chords. Orwin has rejected this proposal.
Gobbs has modified the proposal to two vents. Rejected. Gobbs also proposed giving the boiler a name suitable for a lead performer. Orwin refused before hearing the suggestions, which saved several minutes and, according to Gobbs, deprived Ventorn of an important cultural institution. One vent and a small bell?
Rejected. El confirmed that the note changes slightly as pressure falls. This was enough for Gobbs to begin drawing what he called “the first industrial orchestra.” Orwin removed the paper. The boiler has been adjusted and no longer sings. Gobbs says this is censorship. The workshop says it is maintenance.
