An old service lift in a municipal building stopped between floors yesterday. The doors opened. Behind them was a brick wall. The three passengers looked at the wall. The wall did not offer access. The doors closed again. The lift continued to the correct floor.
Engineers found a worn position contact that triggered the doors at the wrong height. One passenger later admitted he had briefly wondered whether the wall concealed a secret corridor, but decided that any secret corridor beginning with a brick wall was doing an excellent job and deserved to be left alone.
The fault has been repaired. One passenger described the experience as: “A floor with excellent privacy.” Another has asked whether the building contains a secret level. It does not. The third passenger has said nothing and now uses the stairs. A temporary notice inside the lift reads: “PLEASE WAIT FOR AN ACTUAL FLOOR.”
