Postal Bird No. 7 Accepts New Route, Rejects New Route Card

No. 7 completed the morning delivery but objected strongly to the paperwork describing it.

Postal Bird No. 7 Accepts New Route, Rejects New Route Card

Postal Bird No. 7 completed a revised East Tower route without delay this morning. The bird crossed the repaired junction it had previously refused and returned with all message capsules accounted for. Postal staff considered this encouraging until a clerk attached the new route card to its harness.

No. 7 removed the card with its beak and dropped it into a water bowl. A second card was attached. The bird removed that one too and placed it neatly beneath the clerk’s shoe. The route itself was completed again without protest, suggesting the disagreement concerns documentation rather than geography.

The Postal Service has replaced the card with a smaller brass route tag. No. 7 has so far left it alone. Gobbs reportedly described this as “successful administrative compromise.” The bird looked at him for several seconds and then turned around.
