A window cleaner working in Glasshouse Court stopped at a second-floor pane that appeared streaked despite repeated cleaning. After three attempts, he concluded the marks were on the inside.
The room behind the glass belongs to a mapmaker who had been testing charcoal fixative near the window. The mapmaker opened the sash, cleaned the inner surface and apologised. The window cleaner accepted the apology but requested that future dirt remain on his side of the contract.
The pane is now clean from both directions. No further action is required. The mapmaker has moved the charcoal table away from the window. The cleaner has added “confirm side” to a notebook.
