City Museum Opens Cabinet of Misidentified Objects

The museum’s newest display celebrates things residents confidently named incorrectly.

City Museum Opens Cabinet of Misidentified Objects

The Ventorn City Museum opened a small new cabinet today titled internally as the Misidentified Objects Collection. The exhibit includes a valve handle once catalogued as a pastry cutter, a survey weight described as a doorstop and a postal tube cap donated as an “industrial hat.”

Visitors are invited to read the corrected descriptions but not to submit new guesses on the labels. This rule became necessary during preview day when someone wrote “possibly ceremonial biscuit press” beneath the valve handle. The curator admits the suggestion was creative but not useful.

The cabinet will remain on display through winter. The museum is also seeking objects with documented histories of mistaken identification. It is not seeking unidentified objects simply because nobody knows what they are. The curator says that would be a different and much larger room.
