A pipe behind a Copper Market stall produced a three-note hum during the morning rush. The sound repeated twice. A nearby trader called it musical. A customer called it “surprisingly good for infrastructure.” Another trader insisted the second note was flat.
Within five minutes, two people were arguing about key signature beside a cabbage stall. City engineers inspected the pipe and found no leak, loose bracket or damaged valve. The Market Office then asked traders not to strike nearby pipes in an attempt to reproduce the sound.
That request arrived too late. Three stalls had already formed an experimental pipe orchestra. The performance ended when one pipe released a harmless puff of steam into the conductor’s hat. No encore is planned. The hat is drying.
