Street Direction Sign Rotates in Wind and Sends Everyone to the Same Bakery

A loose signpost spent twenty minutes confidently directing four different destinations toward one bakery.

Street Direction Sign Rotates in Wind and Sends Everyone to the Same Bakery

A rotating direction sign caused minor confusion near Market Lane this morning. A loose central bolt allowed the sign arms to turn in strong wind. For approximately twenty minutes, arrows for Copper Market, Bell Street, Tower Post and the Lower Quarter all pointed toward the same bakery. Pedestrians followed them.

The bakery owner noticed something was wrong when three postal workers, two engineers and a tourist arrived asking for unrelated destinations. The bakery owner insists he did not touch the signpost, the bolt or the weather. He has nevertheless placed a tray of pastries closer to the door in case future meteorological conditions once again decide to improve local navigation.

He sold them pastries while explaining. Street Works tightened the signpost. The arrows now point correctly. The bakery owner has asked whether the sign can malfunction again next Saturday. The request has been denied. He has described the decision as “bad for navigation and worse for business.”
