Evening Wind Spins Unused Signpost Arrow; Four Pedestrians Follow It Anyway

A loose directional arrow demonstrated that confidence is sometimes more persuasive than accuracy.

Evening Wind Spins Unused Signpost Arrow; Four Pedestrians Follow It Anyway

A temporary signpost near Bell Street was awaiting removal after road work ended. Evening wind loosened the blank directional arrow, allowing it to rotate freely.

Four pedestrians arrived separately, watched the arrow settle and followed it. The first found a closed service yard. The second followed the first. The third assumed two people constituted evidence. The fourth asked no questions at all.

Street Works removed the sign within twenty minutes. All four pedestrians found their destinations eventually. Officials recommend using signs with actual words whenever possible, especially when the arrow appears excited.
