Forty-Three Brass Buttons Found in Drain; Eleven People Claim “The Shiny One”

A maintenance crew clearing a blocked drain near Copper Market recovered forty-three brass buttons, three washers, a bent spoon and half of a mechanical toy wheel. The Market Office placed the objects in a temporary lost-property box.

Within one hour, eleven people had attempted to claim “the shiny button.” There are forty-three shiny buttons. Claimants must now describe size, shape and any markings before collection. One man responded, “Round.” His claim was not accepted.

The bent spoon remains unclaimed, which officials find suspicious considering the number of spoons discovered recently in places where spoons should not be. The drain is working again. The Market Office would also like to know why somebody tried to claim all forty-three buttons by saying they belonged to “one very complicated coat.”
