Foundry Lane Tests Quiet Hammering Hour; Nobody Agrees What Quiet Hammering Is

Three Foundry Lane workshops agreed to trial a quieter hour between six and seven in the evening. Grinding and powered riveting stopped. Hand tools remained permitted for necessary finishing work.

The first disagreement concerned a small brass hammer. One workshop considered it quiet. The neighbour considered repeated tapping through a shared wall less quiet. A third workshop demonstrated an even smaller hammer, which did not help the discussion.

The trial will continue with a simpler rule: no repetitive impact work during the hour. Filing, measuring and quiet assembly remain allowed. The smallest hammer has not been granted a special exemption.
