A municipal maintenance cart stopped beside Bell Street yesterday and refused to move again. The engine runs. The wheels turn when lifted. The steering works. On the ground, the cart remains exactly where it is. Two mechanics inspected the drive linkage. A third checked the brake.
A fourth asked whether anyone had tried asking nicely. They had not. A resident later asked whether the cart could remain permanently as a bench, arguing that it had already demonstrated superior parking discipline to several human drivers. The maintenance department declined, mostly because it still wants the cart back. The foreman said:
“Please move.” The cart did not. Residents have begun treating the vehicle as street furniture. One person placed a flowerpot on it. The flowerpot has been removed. The cart will be towed to a workshop later today. Officials insist the problem is mechanical. The cart has been informed of this and remains unmoved.
