Postal Bird No. 7 returned from the north route this morning with an acorn inside its otherwise empty message capsule. Staff confirm no sender logged an acorn and no route customer reported using the capsule incorrectly.
The capsule latch was secure when the bird landed. Engineers inspected it and found no damage. One handler believes the acorn may have entered during loading before departure. Gobbs asked whether the acorn requires a lost-property ticket.
The acorn is now on the supervisor’s desk pending a decision nobody expected to make today. No. 7 has resumed service. When shown a second acorn for comparison, the bird showed no interest whatsoever.
