A Copper Market inspector removed a crate of mushrooms from sale after the trader could not explain where they were collected. The trader’s answer was: “Somewhere damp.” Asked for more detail, he added: “Quite damp.” The Market Office did not consider this an improvement.
The mushrooms have not been identified as dangerous. They have simply been identified as mysterious, which is not an approved food category. The crate has been set aside for examination. No customers are believed to have purchased any.
The stallholder may recover the mushrooms if their origin and type can be confirmed. He has already prepared a new sign reading: “PROBABLY EDIBLE.” Inspectors have removed that too. The trader is now selling onions, which he can confidently say came from a sack.
