A resident above Narrow Brass Alley strung a laundry line slightly farther across the gap than usual this morning. Postal Bird No. 4 approached on its regular low route, slowed and climbed neatly over the shirts.
The manoeuvre caused no damage, but it attracted enough spectators that two more residents began watching for the return flight. No. 4 came back by a different street entirely. Postal staff say the bird’s route logic allows minor obstacle avoidance and should not be interpreted as personal criticism of laundry.
The resident has shortened the line. No postal delay was recorded. One shirt now carries a small smear of approved machine oil and will be washed again, which feels unfair but mechanically consistent.
