A pedestrian rope bridge reopened this morning after crews replaced worn brackets and installed reinforced rivets. The bridge passed its official load test. It is safe for ordinary use. Within ten minutes, three residents asked whether deliberately bouncing on it would provide useful additional data. It would not.
City inspectors have asked pedestrians to cross normally. One of the three would-be testers explained that he was not planning to bounce, only to perform a sequence of repeated vertical observations. The inspector replied that the bridge had already been observed by people with instruments, which was considered sufficient.
Handcarts and heavy equipment remain prohibited. One man argued that his cart was “mostly emotional weight.” The cart was still refused. The bridge is functioning correctly. Engineers say the new rivets require no encouragement, testing, tapping or congratulation. A small child has nevertheless congratulated one. The rivet appears unchanged.
