Street Painter Paints Line Around Sleeping Man Rather Than Wake Him

A municipal line now contains one extremely precise human-shaped detour.

Street Painter Paints Line Around Sleeping Man Rather Than Wake Him

A Street Works painter marking a loading boundary near Market Lane encountered a man asleep against the curb. The painter attempted to wake him. The man said: “Five minutes.” The painter waited seven. The man remained asleep. The painter continued working.

The new white line now curves neatly around the shape of one sleeping adult before returning to its original path. After the sleeper left, three traders measured the painted detour and agreed it was remarkably accurate. One suggested charging rent for the space inside the outline. Street Works has confirmed that the road marking is not a property boundary.

The man woke twenty minutes later and left. The human-shaped bend remains. Street Works has asked whether the line should be corrected. Several market traders have requested that it stay. One has already named the space: “Official Sleeping Zone.” It is not. A small sign saying so has been removed twice.
