A handcart carrying umbrellas across Copper Market caused a brief traffic problem when every umbrella opened at once. A loose securing strap is believed to have triggered the first umbrella. The first struck the second. The second opened the third.
Within moments, twenty-six umbrellas had formed what witnesses described as “a very colourful wall.” A strong gust then pushed the entire cart backward. The owner ran after it. So did two customers who had already paid for umbrellas.
The cart travelled approximately thirty metres before gently entering a cabbage stall. No cabbages were seriously injured. Market officials have asked traders to secure folding goods during windy weather. The umbrella seller has placed a new sign on the cart: “NOT A BOAT.” This has not reduced public interest.
