Mechanical Postal Birds
Copper service machines that carry lightweight messages across Ventorn.

Ventorn’s postal birds are mechanical courier units, not living animals. Their bodies are built from fitted copper plates with brass joints at the wings and legs, segmented neck assemblies, route mechanisms and an official Postal Service emblem. A cylindrical letter case is secured to one leg.
They are designed to launch from service rails, follow assigned routes and dock at postal stations. Technicians inspect joints, route parts, clamps and panels when a unit begins behaving incorrectly. Nothing in the maintenance manual refers to feeding, feathers or animal care because none of those things apply.
People still talk to the machines. This is not required for operation, but it becomes difficult not to after one of them turns its brass head and waits until you finish complaining before refusing to move.
